| Subject: Disc priest survivability guide. Mon 29 Dec 2008, 10:17 pm | |
| While running around in ORG on my UD priest, there were 4 priests(1 shadow 2 holy and 1 disc). I didnt even think of them as priests. It looked like a Neanderthal was trying to down a rogue. The shadow one was just spamming MF, without even giving ANY notice of not letting the warr trying to get to him, no fears dots. The 2 holy ones were just spamming holy nova and i lolled watching their mana drop down to 0 in 10 secs. And the disc one, i think he was AFK.
After that I thought to myself- "WOW those are some dumbasses." And seeing that there are more people actaully "trying" their play stile, I decided to make a DIsc priest guide. Hope you learn something from this.
WARNING:
Speccing Disc almost CERTANLY will not provide you with big crits, Disc priests arent THAT mana efficient, so you can only take on about 2 people(if you are skilled). Disc priests are the bane of almost any casters, with their OP 2 sec 1.2k mana removal called- Mana Burn. Disc priest is like a holy paladin in robes, only it gets HoT's. Do not spec Disc if you are looking for extreme nukage. DO spec priest if you are looking for a class that outlasts their opponent.
Spec:
I will go into this later. But the main abilities you want to get are: Power infusion pain suppresion, Blessed resilience, focused Will, and (Optional) Holy nova. Note that holy nova uses up so much mana, it sometimes becomes ineffective, it depends on the situation. If you are at low hp and dont want to get pummeled/kicked while healing spam this to 3/4 of full hp. If not, wait for your dots to bring him down or just plain fear and major heal.
Gear:
Dont go out and get non resillience haste stacking gear, its suicide. Warriors will down you in 3-4 hits, you wont be able to survive through a rogue's stunlock AT ALL. Having more than 310 res is a MUST.Not only is it suicide, but on this server it is illegal. See:Rules and Regulations.(Haste stacking)
Sets:
S4 is a MUST. Get the mooncloth one. Also get the boots brace gloves and belt.
Rings:
S4 ring combined with any 2.4 ring that gives +healing. I use the voting ones. If you can get.
Trinket.
Med of the alliance(5 more ressilience than horde one) the 2nd trink is really your choice, skull of gul'dan, it stack nicely with power infusion, also gives a nice spelldmg bonus, you could pick fleet of thousand ships(+40 sta trink) also gives a HoT, or a darkmoon card(in trink vendor;the cards that give +51 sta) also you can vote for the naaru silver(2 points) which not only gives a GREAT healing and spelldmg addon but also does a Mini evocation, If you can get this GET IT. First thing you do when you vote is get your priest a naaru silver. When i run low on mana i just pop fear and use the evocation, and my mana is back at about 4-5k. Selected choice: Naaru silver, Med of the alliance.
Gems:
+15 sta, definetly. More sta= more being alive= winning in duels and BGS.
Weps:
First i used the S4 healing mace and book. After i upgraded to Golden staff of sin'dorei. AFTER AFTER now i use hammer of temteptious waves(vote for it) and the S4 book. Its up to you, Sin;dorei gives EXELENTS STATS for sta int and most suprisingly it gives +60 spirit. But on the contrary you get about 100 more healing from mace and book. I reccomend the staff. I still find myself using the mace+book for some reason........ Also for wand get the 2.4 one.
Neck: I use a voting one, but get the S4 one, if you cant get the voting one.
Overall: I use the voting staff/mace+book, and the voting rings and neck, otherwise everything else is S4. Use S4 untill you have the accses to voting items.(Dont know how to vote? Go on main page, and go to voting control pannel. Enter you IN GAME USERNAME and pass. and ta-da.
Methods.
Rogues:
Before i go into anything, if you beat a rogue, /pat yourself on the back buddy, Trink on their stun, if you wait for blind, they might just pop preparation and re blind you, resolving in INSTANT death. DO NOT TRINK ON THE SAP. After the stunlock is over fear him, which most likely will resolve in him using the undead racial(most rogues are undead) If he does, great thats another cooldown you wont have to worry about, if he does not, then even better apply your dots FIRST. Then nuke. UNdeads have a little awesome thing called Devouring Plague, it is A DoT that does 1k dmg, but at the cost of 1k mana, Use Inner Focus on devouring plague.Otherwise you might as well be buffing yourself in the fight(DONT). Use that talent only on Greater heals and Devouring plagues. When they cloak of shadow, re-shield yourself and Renew, cast a flash heal, you cant do anything to them anyways, you might as well make their kick on cd. If the rogue is running AWAY from you quickly wand him. its not a spell so cloak wont cover it :]. I see 90% of rogues shit their pants when i do this, either they vanish and run away, or panick and let you nuke them to death. Either way most rogues will CoS and continue Bashing on you. Try to fakecast on their kick, if you dont know what fake casting is, go on youtube and type in wow fake casting. Remember dont panic, if you panic its almost certain a WIPE.
Spells to be wary of: Preparation, Blind, CS, KS, Cos, Vanish, shadowstep, cold blood. Sprint.
Danger Level: Medium to High- depeding on if he knows how to play his class.

| Warriors:
Warriors can be a toughie. Depending if they are 16k hp and over. If they are over 16k hp expect a very very hard ride. First thing first watch out for bersk rage, death wish and recklessness. Deathwish+Recklessnes on a warrior sometimes results in instant death. DW+RECK=4 ret pallys in 1 warrior. It also provides immunity to fear effects, so keep scream down until they go out of those effects. A good trick i use on warriors is using MInd control, which most likely results in a pummel, leaving you free to cast a heal. Hey! its better than standing there and waiting for his dots to kill him/spamming holy nova. Keep renew and heal up. Note that Pain suppresion comes in real handy since it gives that 65% chance to avoid pummel. Pain suppresion is worthless here. if you even try to get off a smite, you will find yourself with 50% less hp than when u began casting that smite. Second wind also procs on bombs, so dont use fel iron ones. Just keep shield and renew. Keep up the pressure. Use holy nova if you have to. Its extremely usefull on classes like warriors an d rogues. Since you just cant risk getting pummeled or kicked, you can use HNOVA to heal urself for regularlly 900+. mine crits for 2k tho :S. You know the warrior will bersk rage/interscept when a giant angry dwarf appears above his head(berserker stance animation)
THings to watch out for: Bersk rage, Death wish, second wind, MS and recklessness
Difficulty: Medium, Medium hard if they have 16k hp. Close to impossible if they pop Recklessness and Death wish. But still possible.
Before i go on any further i will say 1 thing. BIND YOUR KEYS DAMNIT. A priest that has to look for his fear for 2 secs is not as effective as one that can do it instantly. All of my keyes are binded. I dont even use my mouse. IF you clikc dont be ashmed, just.....l2 keybind. it makes life easier. You can do this by pressing ESC---> key bindings and going close to the bottom. It says right acttion bar number 2 or somehting like that. then you click on the red spaces and press a key, and WALLA your key is now binded, press it and you will do the spell. ALSO go into interface and click on Cast spells on self only, this makes you cast your spells on you ONLY. useful when dueling since thats just easier when you dont ahve to press the alt button anymore. :s.
I have to go, my fingers are getting sore. WIll go on with mages and warlocks tommorow.

| Disc priests are so easy, just keep up Pain, Shield, Innerfire, renew, and fear often.

| I used to play rogue/Disc Priest comp on retail and he was very good and i mean extremely good at stayin alive that our plan would be to let the melee if there was one on the other team just chase him around while i downed the healer. I learned alot from him about this game and especially the mechanics of Disc priests and your guide is a bit short but true. Spotlight is in a way correct if the oppenent isnt that great. When you play really good players it goes much more in depth. No need to explain retail shit on here tho. All in all good job. | |

Considering theres only about 20 "real players" i didnt go much in depth. Will try but, i doubt it will be fitted on this whole forum :s

Enter you IN GAME USERNAME and pass. and ta-da.
Gah i hate quoting so much but i had to.
Not exactly. See thats why you SHOULD spam holy nova PW:D, AND PW:P. So mindnumbing wont even affect you(instant spells are instant.) And i have lasted through a prep, but it mostly involves the rogue just /forfeiting when hes at 1k hp
Methods.
Sprint.
Danger Level: Medium to High- depeding on if he knows how to play his class. prep in duel :O
prep and blind O.o is the rogue is a buguser u cant win anyway..say hello 2 mindnumbing LOL

- beating a rogue without warglaives + voting gear is extremely easy as a disc priest..
hf fighting vs a rogue that doenst need clos / trinket/wotf for fear and uses kick and snd what you do? shield and spam holy nova whole fight like every noob priest? There isnt really MUCH to do on stealth abusers/CD poppers. Unless you want to go suicidal and cast a smite, best bet is to dot him fear and holy nova...... stealth abusers, cd poppers lol dont need bug abuse or cd to aovoid fear lol
