Why do people GM on a private server?

Don't ban me for this, srs. question, I mean check this out.

1. You don't get paid
2. GMs get treated as everyone else does
3. You get spammed .... Severely
4. "You help the server" well depending who you are, you might not.
5. Everyone will hate you (Trufax look @ stormblast) :O
6. You will get called shit for all the work you do.
7. People will say you do no tickets when you do like 200 or say depending how long you play

So Why?

I ask you.

Nothing better to do + need to feel important.
Sometimes people just need a power trip rampage.

They want to help the community

It is the next step after donating lots of money....

It's for people who want to donate but don't have any money :/

It's when people like the server enough they want to what they can to make it a better place xD!

Attention is the only reason I can think of.

Gms on prv server are to maintain order over chaos.
Also to keep the fucking server alive.

Stormblast gets his shit done and then he logs out. Easygoes and Floody fly around guru casting gm spells and killing people with god mode on.

Did Jim and Rogue get their powers back?

When I was GMing a server called ChaosCrusade through its very early times reaching my limit when studies did step in, was to get people enjoy and feel "safe".
By feeling "safe" I mean that they can play for free, no hacker environment with no bug abuse. This of course can't be obtained that well in longterm, but we managed to keep hackers at minimum by having 5-10 GMs online constantly.
We reached a point where community actually started to respect us as humen! We got alot of positive feedback of course among the disgraceful ones..

What I think, why people wants to GM private server, is to obtain the power. Here they chooce one path from two.
You either use it for your own fun, play around and don't literally give a shit.
Or you use it to improve the online experience of other players sacrificing your own playing time for the community.
Either one you take, I've come to same conclution than some people here already. They wan't power, for good or bad. But still they want it.

Because power's make them think that they are Something.

Why? Because they want to .kill someone of course. They wanna fly and stuff.

95% of the time they don't even help normal people on the server. They just ignore them and talk to donors and such. I've seen it happen.

I don't know about today's GMs but before it was a common mistake with the GMs.
