its one of the cheapest possiblitys, you can buy a i7 with 16gig ram, tripple sli and 2terabyte hdd for 3-4k @Swifteh You will never feel the 2.6 - 3.1 difference anyway, because you can play any game on to hight fps with both.
But for future cores are much mor eimportant then mhz, look at gta4 and the Phenoms 2 are very good for oc too. (the core2duo is bit better here)

price and future speaks for phenom 2

max fps in games that dont use quad core for core2duo

Price doesn't matter to me though.
I got a well earning job, and I tend to keep it that way.

As for the future, I won't need to change CPU for atleast 10-15 years, if even then.

And I don't plan to keep playing games for 15years (Unless I become a worldfamous pro, then i'd do it because they get chicks easily).

For a couple of reasons!

1. 150/130 fps is the same. And as far as science can go, the human eye can only obtain 60fps. Unless you're some kind of superhero.

2. I don't play Grand theft auto.

3. It runs smoothly,

4. I don't reallt have a technological answer to why I would choose the core2duo, I just like it. Alot =)

btw, what games you wonna play gomaxx ? @Swifteh, well if its the same (it is) whats the point for other cpu? they both can handle actual games easy on 50fps and more (with decent grafic card) only time when you gonna feel a difference is when the game/software use more cores, then the phenom 2 is much better.

well for gta you need tripple or quad core, most mmos dont need anything special good but decent grafic card is allways nice to have.

bet your cpu cant even start it XD had athlon 5000 oced on 3ghz and only 20fps, changed to phenom 2 x3 710 50fps <3

Well i recommend this:

4gb of ram in dual-channel mode. (4x1gb) [I heard dual channel is pro]
W/e GPU but something thats good, maybe Geforce 9800 GS~ or Radeon X4600~
CPU: Dual core if you want cheap that will last you for a while, if not go for the Quad corez or tripplez.
If you get a Quad CPU, buy a new CPU fan as the default factory ones are uber shite.
Motherboard to support your new core. Thats if you choose one thats not compatible with the core you bought.

mainboard: some cheap one = 50euro

ram: 4gig in dual channel (= 2x 2gig) =40 euro

graficcard: ati HD4870 = 119 euro

hdd: you should had one, but if you got pentium 4, yours is 90% IDE, so if you got money left buy a ATA one, but its not THAT imortant.
