Races
Ok so the first thing you do when you start a Mage is pick your race.
Blood Elf
Ok so they have the mana tap which is very good vs healers if youre trying to oom them and the silence is AMAZING only downside is they look pretty gay  .
Troll
Ahh trolls aren't really a great race the haste buff spell is OK i wouldn't recommend Troll.
Undead
Coolest looking race ever imo, Will of the Forsaken is a godsend vs locks and priests.
Gnome
+5% intellect is very good since it's one of the main stats for a mage, escape artist is FTW.
Human
Perception.. isn't really too good helps you out vs 2 classes but 90% of the time i let Rogue/Druids get the opener to be polite  .
Draenei
If you wanna look like a squid then this race is for you, Gift of the Naaru decent racial but not as good as the Blood Elf silence or Gnome Escape Artist.
In the end it's all upto you, I chose undead for my Mage because it looked the best imo and the racial is decent.
If you want to pick a race because of the racial then i'd choose BLood Elf for Horde and Gnome for Alliance.

Mage vs Rogue
Ahh those dreaded Rogues probably the hardest class for Mages to beat if they are both of equal skill.
Ok so start off with Mana Shield and Ice Barrier up I usually let rogues get the opener, he will cheap shot immediately blink out of this the Rogue will shadowstep and kidney shot you now you can ice block out of it now you must act very fast because for the nest few seconds you will be free before he can get crippling back on you, cone of cold him try and gain a little distance use fireblast aswell he will probably pop sprint here. Hit frost nova he will use cloak of shadows to get out of this, hit him with your wand while hes in cloak as soon as he gets out cone of cold fireblast again then summon your elemental and quickly hit the freeze and ice lance at the same time he will trinket out of this blink any stuns if he blind you trinket out of it once his cloak and trinkets gone if you can stay alive long enough for your nova to come off cooldown its pretty much over for the rogue keep casting instants when hes up in your face thats pretty much it.

Mage vs Mage
Mirror match
Ok to start stand close to him hit cone of cold then fireblast frost nova him forcing a blink then hit scorch he will most likely silence you hit him with wand if he novas you while youre silenced trinket out of it immediately, now you are free to cast whatever you want so pop icy veins and your spell damage/haste trinket (if you have one) and spam frostbolt (make sure you dont cast any frost spell while his silence is up) now you will be putting out alot of damage most of the time your target panics because he is dropping health so quickly and this forces him to play defensive, now from here its basically gg (always keep frostward and ice barrier up, silence any frost spell or fire if he is specced that way he casts) if you are a little more experienced you can try fake casting.

Mage vs Resto/Elemental Shaman
Alright this is a pretty simple fight so il keep it short
Stand around 25 yards away from him so he cant earth shock you (20 yard range earth shock is nothing to 36yard frostbolt) ice block chain lightning when he gets to around 50% hp silence any spell he casts then pop icy veins/trinket and frostbolt him if he gets too close fake cast earth shocks or use scorch
Difficulty 2/5
I love how you make a guide as if you were a pro, but then when an arms warrior (Counterclass is mage) totally obliterates you in a duel you blame it on the lag. | |
